Xming X Server for Windows was a free download product with the latest public domain release in 2016. The 2019 versions now require payment. Cygwin is a large collection of GNU and Open Source tools which provide functionality similar to a Linux distribution on Windows. You can still use Xming X Servers older versions but they may not be compatible with newer Windows OS.

Wayland is a complete window system in itself, but even so, if we're migrating away from X, it makes sense to have a good backwards compatibility story. With a few changes, the Xorg server can be modified to use wayland input devices for input and forward either the root window or individual top-level windows as wayland surfaces. The server still runs the same 2D driver with the same acceleration code as it does when it runs natively. The main difference is that wayland handles presentation of the windows instead of KMS.

Most of us connect to the CTM server via a PC running Windows, essentially making the PC a terminal. The PC interacts with the server through the X-windows system, forwarding the display from the server to the PC. Software must be installed on the PC to make this link work and the best software (so far) for this task is the PuTTy terminal emulator and the Xming X-window client.

In the Git bash or the windows command line (cmd) terminal, before you connect to an ssh server, you have to set the used display.Under normal circumstances, VcXsrv will start the Xserver as display 0.0. If for some reason the remote graphical userinterface does not start later on, you can check, the actual display by right-clicking on the tray-icon of the X Serverand select Show log.Search for DISPLAY in the log file, and you will find something like:
